Sources and References Policy

How we use, credit and link to other people’s work.

Attribution

Where an article draws on published work by someone else — a technique, a benchmark, a finding, a piece of analysis — we credit the author by name and link to the original. This applies to forum posts, mailing list threads, personal blogs and issue-tracker comments as much as it does to formal publications. If a fix we document was worked out by somebody in a forum thread in 2019, that person gets the credit.

What we do not do

• We do not republish other people’s articles, in whole or in part.
• We do not paraphrase a source closely while omitting the credit.
• We do not present someone else’s benchmark, test result or screenshot as our own work.
• We do not scrape documentation and reformat it as an original guide.

Quotation

Direct quotes are marked as quotes, attributed, and linked to the source. We quote the minimum needed to make the point. Quotes are not edited to change meaning; where we trim for length we mark the omission.

Code

Code samples we did not write ourselves are attributed and their licence noted. We do not reproduce licensed code in a way the licence does not permit. Where a snippet comes from official documentation we link to that documentation.

Outbound links

We link to sources because readers should be able to check us. Outbound links are editorial: nobody buys one, and we do not accept payment to add, remove or alter a link. Where a link is affiliate or sponsored it is marked as such on the page, per our Affiliate Disclosure.

We check links on a rolling basis. Where a source has gone offline we say so and point to an archived copy where one exists.

Corrections to attribution

If we have used your work without proper credit, tell us at editorial@joomlaxtc.com and we will correct the attribution or remove the material.
