Affiliate Disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. This page explains exactly what that means, what it changes, and — more importantly — what it does not.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a link that identifies JoomlaXTC as the referrer. If you follow one and subsequently buy something, we may receive a commission from the vendor. The price you pay is unaffected — you are not charged more, and using an affiliate link never costs you anything.

What it does not change

This is the part that matters:

• Affiliate arrangements never influence a review, a score or a recommendation. Our scoring criteria are published in How We Review and applied identically whether or not a product has an affiliate programme.
• We regularly recommend products with no affiliate programme over products that have one, including free extensions over paid ones. When the free option is the right answer, that is what we write.
• We criticise, mark down and advise against products we have affiliate relationships with, where the testing supports it.
• We do not add affiliate links to an article in exchange for payment, and no vendor can buy their way into a recommendation.

How affiliate links are marked

Articles containing affiliate links carry a disclosure at the top of the page, before the content — not at the foot where you would find it after deciding. Where practical, individual affiliate links are marked at the point of use.

Why we use them at all

Affiliate commission and advertising fund the testing. Reviews on this site require buying commercial licences and hosting, and that has to be paid for somehow. The alternatives — charging readers, or letting vendors pay for coverage — are worse. We take the funding model that leaves the editorial judgement intact and disclose it plainly.
