Ajax Parse Error
If you get an Ajax parse error when trying to install the Database during the Quickstart Installation process you will need to check two things:
#1 Is your server set to PHP 5 or above?
#2 Is your .htaccess file present? If your .htaccess file in the root of your joomla install is not present but there is a htaccess.txt file - you will need to rename the .txt to .htaccess
This should solve your install issue.
500 Error
There are several causes for a "500" error to appear, most are related to server configuration settings. Please review the following suggestions one by one as it might be possible you are experiencing multiple causes at the same time:
File permissions.
Some systems require files to have specific security permissions to work. In most cases, the suggested Joomla permissions will work: On UNIX/Linux systems, set all directories as '755' and all files as '644'. If this fails, you can try setting all files and directories to '777' but in the end you should ask your hosting provider about what are the exact permissions to have.

Low PHP memory.
Most hosting companies leave PHP configuration default values at a minimum and are not ready to handle a good-sized website or complex applications such as Joomla, check your PHP settings in the "System Information / PHP Information" administrator page and look for the "memory_limit" parameter, we have found Joomla works best with values of 256M, 384M or 512M. This settings are stored in a file called "php.ini", you might have to ask your hosting provider about specific instructions to edit and enable this file for your web server.
Memory Error
If you are experiencing the following error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of ******** bytes exhausted (tried to allocate ****** bytes)
It means your PHP settings need to be configured. Locate and open the php.ini file of your site in a plain-text editor such as Notepad, and change the following parameter:
memory_limit = 128M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (128 Megabytes)
A value of 128M (128 Megabytes) will work for most scenarios, however a high-load site might require more. Once updated, restart your Web server to put the change in action.
Note: Some hosting companies do not allow direct access to the php.ini file or server restart, please consult your Hosting support on how to perform this change
Upload Error
Upload errors of large files in Joomla can be caused by a restriction on the PHP configuration in the web server. Edit the php.ini (you might need help from your hosting company) file of your system and look for the following parameter:
upload_max_filesize
Edit it to a value that works for the size of the files you want to upload, for example:
upload_max_filesize = 64M
This will enable upload of files up to 64 megabytes in size.
Note: Just editing the php.ini file might not be enough, a web server reboot or additional tasks can be required. Consult your hosting provider for specific procedures.
No Config File Found
Please check your php settings for your max upload file limit make sure its around 20 - 32mb, as well please check your servers memory settings and make sure its at least 256m (512m is suggested)
Cannot find installation package
When you get an error message such as "cannot find installation package", "AJAX error", "There was an error uploading this file to the server" or the server times out and nothing happens
When you get an error message such as "cannot find installation package", "AJAX error", "There was an error uploading this file to the server" or the server times out and nothing happens, follow these tips to discard the most common problem causes:
1. Make sure your server is running on PHP 5.3 or greater. Most Joomla extensions work best with it.
2. Check your php.ini file settings for Maximum Upload and Maximum POST parameter values. Most hosting companies have them set at the default of 2 megabytes. Any file larger than that will be rejected after upload! You will need to open the php.ini file in a text reader and edit the following parameters as below. We suggest setting both at 30 megabytes or the largest filesize you plan to use:
file_uploads = On upload_max_filesize = 30M post_max_size = 30MAsking your hosting company for help is strongly sugested if you are not familiar with this file.
3. If the installation process of a Quickstart package stops while loading the sample data, look on your database error log file for clues. Most of the time the selected database username does not have proper permissions on the database itself.
4. Your host's FTP and Web servers might not be configured to share file permissions, specially in Linux-based systems. double-check your files to ensure they comply with the following recommendation:
755 for directories
644 for files
