The final version of Joomla 2.5(.28) was released on December 10th. The migration process from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3x is painless compaired to the nightmare that 1.5 to 2.5 posed. If you haven't made the move to Joomla 3 yet, we suggest you make the jump as soon as possible as benefits of Joomla 3 are immediate!
Joomla 3 has introduced so many new features many haven't even discovered all of them yet. Here is a brief list of new features and advancements:

- Extension Directory: Based on the Joomla extension directory, the extension manager now allows you to install and checkout extensions right inside of Joomla!
- Tags: Tagged content for better indexing and searching
- Content Versions: Articles can now be saved as versions for great A/B testing
- Template Manager: A more robust template editor with the ability to edit and create overrides right inside of Joomla
- Mootools vs. JQuery: Packaged with JQuery in the core and Mootools
